What you need to know
In your child’s appointment we will:
-
Maintain oral health
-
Modify bad habits
-
Teach good oral hygiene routines to prevent dental disease
-
Treat issues as early as possible
Some younger children will start with what we call a ‘chair ride’ where the dentist will invite your child to sit on the chair and try it out (some will prefer to sit on a parent’s lap in the chair) and for those children who are willing, the dentist may count your child’s teeth and do a quick check. The appointments will then build up over time to result in a full examination and cleaning on a regular 6 monthly basis. When this happens will depend on your child and the pace they are comfortable with – for some this will be straight away and for others, it will be across a series of visits over time.
Your child’s routine appointment will take between 10 and 30 minutes depending on the age of the child and what services are received in the appointment.
You may be asked about your child’s dental and medical history and usual oral care routine at home. You will also be provided with useful tips and information on how to help your children care for their teeth.
Where your child requires treatment, the appointment length will usually be around 30-45 minutes depending on the treatment required.
More information on the various treatment your child may require can be found in the services menu.
